wholechild.pngA grassroots organization of parents, educators and interested others are banding together to create a holistic school for K-8 in the east end of Toronto. They have been working for about a year organizing, planning and outlining a curriculum and now they have a proposal receiving serious consideration from the Toronto District School Board.

Pathways to Education Program in Regent Park has Reduced Drop-Out
Rate from 56% to 10 % - Now Being Expanded in Toronto and Nationally

Toronto, July 16, 2007 – Pathways to Education released today a pro bono evaluation study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) which demonstrates that the six year old program has had a dramatic result in reducing the high school drop-out rate in Regent Park from 56% to 10% and increasing the proportion of young people attending post-secondary education from 20% to 80%.

Alfie Kohn writes and speaks widely on human behavior, education, and parenting. The author of eleven books and scores of articles, he lectures at education conferences and universities as well as to parent groups and corporations. On this edition of “Room 101” Kohn discusses his latest book, The Homework Myth, in which he discusses the utter lack of research evidence supporting the benefits of homework. In his discussion with Baker, Kohn argues there is not a single research study that finds any academic benefit from homework for elementary students.
